This piece was created during a residency hosted in an unleased office space in Monument, London, UK, the centre of the ‘city’ financial district. The rest of the building was occupied by city workers, and the busy reception area had a TV screen which showed BBC News 24. The residency took place during the party conference season and footage of this was on the reception TV on loop every day. I created a ‘politically impossible’ karaoke song and video from party conference speeches, accompanied by a karaoke machine. Visitors were invited to ‘singalong’ to the almost identical speeches of the then-main UK rival political party leaders, David Cameron of the Conservatives and Ed Miliband of Labour. |
