Access Support, Advice and Mentoring

I also work as a freelancer, across writing, copyediting, proofreading, evaluation, and mentoring, particularly for funding and academic application writing – persuasive writing and problem-solving are my strengths.

I provide an advice and mentoring service for artists (of any stripe) around applications, funding, and project management.

Over the last 8 years, I’ve mentored artists towards making successful ACE grants applications (DYCP and NLPG), and other types of funding. I have experience writing funding applications, evaluations and post-grant reports for arts organisations. I’ve co-written successful 6-figure ACE bids, secured PhD funding for myself, secured grants for academic conferences and events, and secured funding-in-kind such as pro bono legal advice for artists. As well as successfully completing a research-based PhD (writing, editing, and proofing c.100,000 words), I have 6 years' experience working as a university lecturer and occasional guest lecturer on arts courses. I’ve written for 3:AM Magazine, and during lockdown I wrote matchday previews and player profiles for fantasy football site, ShePlays.

Some examples of areas that I can provide advice or mentoring for in
cludes (but is not limited to):
  • Writing funding, residency, and academic applications
  • Identifying funding/support-in-kind
  • Proofing and/or copyediting texts
  • Managing funded projects
  • Working with funders, partners and stakeholders
  • Any/all of the above as a neurodivergent artist

My rates follow Artist Union England recommendations – please contact me for more information.

Access Support for ACE applications:

If you wish to apply for Arts Council funding (DYCP or NLPG) and have access needs, or face any other barriers to making an application, you may qualify for access support from ACE through their access support programme.

This means ACE will pay me to help you write your application, and/or submit it on Grantium, with zero cost to you.

Please contact me to discuss how I can help.
